Diwali is a festival of wealth, food, happiness, peace, and opulence. Different states of India perform special pujas based on mythology on this occasion. Diwali is mainly celebrated in India and Nepal. Apart from this, it is also celebrated with enthusiasm in other countries.

The most popular story among the reasons for celebrating Diwali is that the entire Ayodhya city was decorated with flowers and lamps to commemorate Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya with his mother Sita and his brother Lakshman after fourteen years after killing Ravana in Treta Yuga. Since then Diwali started being celebrated every year on Kartik Amavasya.

When is Diwali celebrated?

This festival is celebrated with great pomp on the full moon of the autumn of Kartik month. According to the Gregorian calendar, this festival is celebrated in the month of October or November.

Reasons for celebrating Diwali at different places in India

Different states of India have different reasons for celebrating Diwali. Some of the major ones are as follows-

  • Orissa, Bengal, located in the eastern part of India, celebrates Mata Shakti on this day because of taking the form of Mahakali. And worship Kali instead of Lakshmi.
  • Diwali holds great significance for Punjab located in the northern part of India as the foundation of the Golden Temple in Amritsar was laid on this day in 1577. And on this day Sikh Guru Hargobind Singh was released from jail.
  • States located in the southern part of India like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, etc. celebrate Diwali by worshiping Krishna in the joy of killing Narakasura by Krishna at Dwapar.

Especially people burn crackers on Diwali, these crackers are very dangerous. Due to being in fun, there is a risk of an unwanted accident. Therefore, during the festivities of the festival, one should also take full care of safety.

Many people believe that gambling on the occasion of Diwali leads to a flood of wealth in the house. For this reason, many people gamble on this occasion. This is not proper behavior.

Many wild animals are very much afraid of the sound of firecrackers. Apart from this, the elderly and patients suffering from serious diseases also face problems due to these sounds.
