Essay on Women Empowerment in English & Hindi Latest 20233

If we understand women empowerment in easy terms, then its aim is to empower women so that they are not left behind in our society and can take their decisions shoulder to shoulder with men and raise their heads in society.
The main goal of women’s empowerment is to get women their rightful rights.

Problems related to Women in India

The condition of women in India is not good. Women have been neglected socially, economically, and politically for years. They are considered inferior to men. This has led to the psychological decline of women and their personality has not been fully developed.

A formidable problem of Indian society is gender discrimination, the status of women. Their social, economic, and political status has been dispensed with for centuries. Women were given a lower standard in social life.

Women Empowerment, why and how?

At every level of society, women had to face torture lives and accept unequal human relationships. It is noteworthy that the number of women in the world is half of the world population. Therefore, their problem should be considered as the problem of the whole society.

For this, a change in structure and behavior is necessary to bring satisfactory changes in the condition of women. Therefore all development programs or social organizations. The focus should be on improving the condition of women. All those useful methods or strategies will have to be applied to the same women as the development of men, only then harmony will come in human relations.

Government’ schemes for women empowerment

In India, many provisions have been made under the Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles for Women’s Empowerment. Apart from this, many programs and schemes like Beti Padhao Beti Bachao, one-stop center, women helpline, Nari Shakti purushkar, Mahila-e-haat, etc have been implemented for the welfare of women.

A women’s commission has been set up at the national level, which performs many tasks related to the welfare and progress of women.

Conclusion

Many efforts have been made for the welfare of women, which has definitely improved the condition of women. There has been proper development of women in the fields of education, health, science, technology, and sports, which has helped in women’s empowerment. Yet women still have some problems. Therefore, appropriate measures should be taken to solve these problems.

Women empowerment essay 500 Words

Essay on Women Empowerment in English

A famous saying goes  God cannot be everywhere, so he created mother’ and another
reads God dwells where women are worshipped. It is quite interesting to see that we want either to worship a woman as a Goddess or hate her like a whore.

Why doesn’t society let her live as a woman, just a simple living being made of blood and flesh?
Why can’t she be a normal human being and not a symbol of tolerance and sacrifice?

Our patriarchal form of society made the woman believe that she will carve a niche for herself in heaven if she remains chaste, tolerant, sacrificial, faithful, and most important of all if she worships her husband and treats him like God.

She was given a subordinate position in the society and was confined within four walls, to help her remain chaste and pure, which was supposed to help her develop godly powers.

Time and again she has narrated the stories of Sati Savitri and Sita. It is rightly said ” Women are not born, they are made”.

In India, female exploitation is reflected in Sati-Pratha, wife-beating dowry deaths, eve-teasing, child prostitution, female foeticide, and flesh trade. Besides defective and ineffective legislation, it is the traditional attitudes towards women and their role status in the family and the society, which is mainly responsible for the continued suffering of women.

Most of the crimes against women in India are directly traceable to their inferior subservient ” position supported by religions and social norms. For women empowerment, the first requirement is educating the women.

If we educate a man, we educate an individual, but if we educate a woman, we educate a family. Besides this only an educated mind can think and evaluate. Just as the
knowledge of the English language helped some revolutionists in gaining information about
the French revolution and then raising similar demands in India, the knowledge about the right
to equality and equal opportunity will help the women to come out of their cocoon ” and occupy equal status in the society.

Women also need to have adequate representation in the seats of power. Sadly the 50 percent population of women has only 11 % percent represeаtatives in the Parliament.

The Women Reservation Bill is shamelessly resisted by many parliamentarians on one or other frivolous excuses.

Adequate representation in the Parliament will be helpful for women as then they would be able to frame and implement laws for the welfare of the women. Some people oppose this citing the
example of Panchayats where women sarpanch are puppets in the hands of their male counterparts.

We need to understand that, this is the transition stage. Today they have the power, tomorrow they will understand its value, and the day after tomorrow they will exercise it. We cannot expect changes overnight. Secondly, they need to be financially independent in the absence of financial
the independence she became a suppressed exploited and impoverished class of the society.

As society progressed, division of labor took place. Women took the charge of rearing the children which was not an easy task at that time, but this led to their financial dependence on men.

The earning members of the society became stronger, socially active, and all-powerful. Women lost their social status.

Now the need for financial independence is felt because if the women are financially independent, the chances of tolerancing domestic violence decrease. They are then more confident and are aware of their rights and know-how and where to go to seek redressal of their grievances.

Women must demand their rights and must not just wait for any mercy or miracle. They must not
tolerate exploitation in any form. In the name of family and honor, many women have sacrificed their lives.

This has done nothing but has worsened the condition of women They must take care of themselves. They shouldn’t let others take them for granted. Women should respect themselves, They do not need to be like men to be respected. They are the creator of life on this earth. They
command respect not as Goddesses but as women, the most beautiful creation of God.

Women Empowerment Essay in English

Short and Long Essay on Women Empowerment

Introduction

Women empowerment is a topic of discussion in today’s time, especially in backward and progressive countries because they came to know much later that without women’s progress and empowerment, the progress of the country is not possible.

Economic empowerment of women refers to the availability of their economic decisions, income, property, and other things, only by getting these facilities she can raise her social status.

What is women’s empowerment?

Women empowerment can be defined in very simple words that it makes women powerful so that they can make every decision related to their life on their own and can live well in family and society. Women empowerment is to enable them to achieve their real rights in society.

What is the need for women’s empowerment in India?

The need for women’s empowerment arose because India had gender inequality since ancient times and was a male-dominated society. Women were suppressed by their own family and society for many reasons and they were subjected to many types of violence and discrimination in the family and society, this is visible not only in India but also in other countries.

For women, the wrong and old practice that had been going on in society since ancient times was molded into new customs and traditions.

To give respect to women in Indian society, there is a tradition of worshiping women ladies in the form of mother, sister, daughter, wife, but it does not mean that only by worshiping women, the need for the development of the country will be fulfilled.

Today, it is necessary that half of the country’s population i.e. women should be empowered in every field, which will become the basis of the development of the country.

India is a famous country that has proved the idiom of ‘Unity in Diversity‘, where people of different religions live in Indian society. Women have been given a different place in every religion which is helping to continue many wrong actions (physical and mental) against women as a big screen covering people’s eyes and as a role model for many years.

Ancient Indian society had other discriminatory practices including the Sati system, city bride system, dowry system, sexual violence, domestic violence, the killing of girls in the womb, purdah system, sexual exploitation at the workplace, child labor, child marriage, and devadasi system, etc. The reason for such malpractices is patriarchal society and male superiority psychology.

Socio-political rights (freedom to work, right to education, etc.) by male family members were completely restricted.

Some bad practices against women were removed by open-minded people and great Indian people who raised their voices for discriminatory actions against women.

It was due to the continuous efforts of Raja Ram Mohan Roy that the British were compelled to abolish the practice of Sati. Later other Indian social reformers (Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Acharya Vinobha Bhave, Swami Vivekananda, etc.) also raised their voice and fought hard for the upliftment of women.

In order to improve the condition of widows in India, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar started the Widow Remarriage Act 1856 with his constant efforts.

In the last few years, many constitutional and legal rights have been created and implemented by the government to remove gender inequality and bad practices against women.

However, to solve such a big issue, there is a need for constant cooperation of everyone including women.

Modern society is more conscious about women’s rights, as a result of which many self-help groups and NGOs, etc. are working in this direction.

Women are more open-minded and are breaking social shackles to get their rights in all dimensions.

Some of the Acts passed by the Parliament to empower women with legal rights are –

  • Equal Remuneration Act 1976,
  • Dowry prohibition act 1961,
  • Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act 1956,
  • Medical termination of pregnancy act 1987,
  • Child marriage prevention act 2006,
  • Sex Testing Techniques (Control and Prevention of Misuse) Act 1994,
  • Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013.

Obstacles in the way of women empowerment in India –

Social norms

Due to old and orthodox ideologies, women are banned from leaving their homes in many areas of India. In such areas, women do not have the freedom to go out of the house for education or employment.

Due to living in such an environment, women start considering themselves as inferior to men and prove to be unable to change their present social and economic conditions.

Gender discrimination

In India, women are still discriminated against at the gender level in the workplace. In many areas, women are not even allowed to go out for education and employment.

Along with this, they do not have the freedom to work independently or take family-related matters and they are always considered less than men in every work.

Due to this type of discrimination, the social and economic condition of women deteriorates and at the same time, it badly affects the goal of women empowerment.

Physical abuse in the workplace

Exploitation in the workplace is also a major obstacle to women’s empowerment. The private sector such as the service industry, software industry, educational institutions, and hospitals are most affected by this problem.

It creates more problems for women due to the domination of male dominance in society. Violence against women in the workplace has increased very rapidly in the recent past and has seen an increase of about 170 percent in the last few decades.

Equality of payment

Women in India are paid less than their male counterparts and the problem is even worse in the unorganized sector, especially in places with daily wages.

Despite performing the same amount of work for the same amount of time, women are paid much less than men and such work reflects the power disparity between women and men.

Women working in the organized sector are paid less than men despite having the same experience and qualifications as their male counterparts.

Illiteracy

Problems like illiteracy and drop out of education among women are also major obstacles in women’s empowerment. Although in urban areas, girls are at par with boys in terms of education, in rural areas they are far behind.

The female education rate in India is 64.6 percent while the male education rate is 80.9 percent. Many rural girls who go to school also drop out in the middle of their studies and they are not able to pass even the tenth standard.

Child marriage

Although the evils like child marriage in India have been reduced to a great extent by the effective decisions taken by the government in the last few decades, a UNICEF report in 2018 shows that there are still about 15 lakh girls every year in India. Marriage is done before the age of 18, due to early marriage, the development of women stops and she is not able to grow up physically and mentally.

Female foeticide

Female feticide or abortion on the basis of gender is one of the biggest obstacles in the way of women’s empowerment in India. Female feticide refers to feticide on the basis of sex, under which abortion is done without the consent of the mother on the detection of the female fetus.

Due to female feticide, there has been a huge difference in the sex ratio between women and men in states like Haryana and Jammu, and Kashmir. These claims of our women empowerment will not be fulfilled until we will not be able to eradicate the problem of female feticide.

Crimes against women

Serious crimes like dowry, honor killing, and trafficking are seen along with much domestic violence against Indian women. However, it is quite strange that women in urban areas are more victims of criminal attacks than women in rural areas.

Even working women do not use public transport late at night for their safety. In the true sense, women’s empowerment can be achieved only when the safety of women can be ensured and like men, they can also come freely anywhere without fear.

Role of Government for Women Empowerment in India

There are many schemes run by the Government of India for women’s empowerment. Many schemes are being run by the Ministry of Women and Child Development Welfare and the Government of India for the empowerment of Indian women.

Some of these main schemes are given below-

  1. Ujjwala Yojana
  2. Mahila Shakti Kendra
  3. Women Helpline Scheme
  4. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme
  5. Reservation for women in Panchayati Raj Schemes
  6. Support to Training and Employment Program for Women (STEP)

Conclusion

To bring true women empowerment in Indian society, one has to understand and remove the main causes of bad practices against women which is a patriarchal and male-dominated system of society. It is necessary that we should change the old thinking against women and also bring changes in the constitutional and legal provisions.
